Directly to your inbox Apis florea, commonly called the Dwarf honey bee or Red dwarf honey bee, is one of two species of small, wild honey bees of southern and southeastern Asia. It has a much wider distribution than its sister species, Apis andreniformis. This species, together with A. andreniformis, is the most plesiomorphic honeybee species alive. This page features one of the most primitive species of honeybee: Apis florea. It is also known as the Red dwarf honeybee, due to the reddish-brown coloration on their abdomen, and their relatively small size compared to the other honeybees.
